Performance : from
"jondura" to "ánge" |
|
|
Define 'jondura' as the gripping
effect of human experience, the meaningful depth of
actions and creations, the torment of the unknown, fear
of death, unrequited love, the universal human anguish.
Define 'ánge' (angel) as the
marvelous, joyful, playful wit, typical of the province
of Cádiz... the throwing of cares to the wind, to
forget life's trials for a moment. |
 |
Six unexpected performers,
uniting in a master brushstroke, the obvious and the subtle,
transporting the essence of 'cante','baile', and 'toque': the
song, dance, and guitar of Jerez de la Frontera, cradle of the
'arte puro', the Gypsy Flamenco.

Six performers with the
necessary virtuosity to allow them to accomplish the difficult
end of improvising spontaneously within a strict 'compás'
(rhythm) and structure; artists who never allow technique to
become an end in itself, thus remaining true to the natural
aristocratic gypsy style of the town.
From the temperamental
obvious, to the subtle effects of true mastery, in a whirlwind
of flying contrasts, the audience is taken on a magic carpet
into the realm of 'Duende',a transcendental state of
union with the undefinable mystery of perfection: the world
of flamenco.
The Choreography
When
the program is true, genuine flamenco, and not the automatic,
commercial and artificial fare so commonly promoted by the
media, each artist creates his own choreography at every
recital, the artists bouncing off one another, in a repartee
that is always fresh.
The Audience
This
program is apt for audiences of all ages. The serious and
knowledgeable aficionado, always searching for authenticity will
be totally enthralled. The classical music lover will discover
in the subtlety of the guitar-playing, an enchanted world he has
never been to. The 'ethnic' oriented public, the 'connaisseur'
as well as the everyday, open-minded, theatre-goer will be
delighted to laughter and moved to tears.
